A CYCLIST in his 50s was seriously injured after colliding with a Mercedes estate car yesterday afternoon.

Police were called at 2pm after reports of a crash in Perkins Avenue near the junction with College Road.

Initial police reports suggested a motorcycle was involved but an ambulance spokesman today confirmed it was a bicycle.

The 52-year-old injured man was airlifted to King's College Hospital in London by Kent Air Ambulance.

He suffered injuries to his head, abdomen, thorax and leg.

Traffic was diverted away from the ares while emergency services worked at the scene.
