THE work of acclaimed artist Sir Peter Blake has gone on display at new gallery in Ramsgate.

Updown Gallery's inaugural exhibition by the godfather of British Pop Art, 6 Decades Of Print, officially opened on November 17.

Around 400 people attended a private view hosted by gallery owners Kate and Guy Smith.

Guests included Joan Le Mesurier, the widow of Dad's Army star John Le Mesurier, authors Helen Oxenbury and John Burningham, artist Ann Carrington, Jason Dors-Lake, son of screen siren Diana Dors, and Laura Sandys MP.

Mrs Sandys thanked the couple for choosing Ramsgate and Thanet as the exhibition's location, adding that it would attract people from all over the country.

6 Decades of Print features more than 100 limited edition prints spanning Sir Peter Blake's 60-year career, which will be on display until December 22.

Updown Gallery, Satis House, Elms Avenue, Ramsgate, is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm.
