THANET has taken another step in becoming a green isle, as a £13 million solar park takes shape.
As this picture shows, the site, which hopes to generate up to 5 megawatts of electricity every year – enough to provide energy for a village the size of St Nicholas – is well on its way to being completed. The park contains 60 rows of 3 metre high solar panels which can be tilted to maximise exposure to the sun. The electricity from the site, which is just off Ebbsfleet Lane will be sold to businesses with green credentials.
The location was chosen to have a minimal effect on local surroundings, both visibly and environmentally.
This is the latest eco-friendly project in the area, after the £780m development of the offshore wind farm.
